Introduction

For my A level coursework I have been set the task of creating a launch trailer for a soap opera that we have come up with. This means that I have had to research, in depth, the history of soaps and their conventions so that I can create a soap that fits in well with its genre. The trailer for the soap has been given an unusually long time frame, which does not fit into normal soap trailers so it will not be 100% similar, but it is important for the trailer to be of a longer length so my group can demonstrate understanding of soap styles, trailers and characters, as well as tackle controversial issues, a feature that British soaps are renowned for. In my group there is me, Iona English, and Jamie Parker. We have also been given two ancillary texts to complete. One is a Television Magazine front cover, advertising out new soap, and the other is a Poster for our new soap. For these we have had to look at other TV magazines and Launch posters. This blog will contain my research into the history of soaps, already existing media texts that I have evaluated for ideas, academic research to show that I have a good understanding of soap operas and their audiences, all my planning and production work and finally my evaluation.
